Katherine Harman Harding

Making art is what I do to make my particular order out of daily disorder.

Organizing and reorganizing puddles of paint and printed, dyed paper or fabric conceal and reveal the awe I have for landscape. My family’s journey has moved us through other people’s lives in the Midwest, the South, Puerto Rico, the Southwest and Europe.  Materials coalesce into memories shared and scents remembered: dry desert, moist rocky coast, the sweet smell of balsam with a top note of tangy, slippery low tide, dirt.

I work in oil, watercolor, print medias and fiber – often simultaneously.  My imagery is rooted in the landscape and the thread of places and times shared connects the work I have made these past 30 years.  Making art is a solitary endeavor, but I am never alone.  I continue to learn from and experience delight in children and grandchildren, while reflecting on times of joy and sorrow shared with friends and family.

TRELLIS is the name of my ongoing project of fiber scrolls.
